14 Ways to an Amazing Valentine’s Day
When do lovers express their love for each other by sending cards, flowers, or candy? If you said Valentine’s Day, you’d be right. Also known as Saint Valentine’s Day, it is a holiday celebrated each year on February 14th. The holiday is named after two Christian martyrs named Valentine. They became associated with romantic love and thus, the Valentine’s Day was born.
Today most people associate Valentine’s Day with the exchange of cards, chocolate, roses, and other symbols of their love. How about some different ways to share your love this Valentine’s Day? Try these.
#1: Write a love note. A real love note. Don’t send an electronic greeting or purchase a card. Take the time to write an actual, traditional love note to someone you care about. Your love note does not need to be long; however, it does need to be handwritten while sharing your thoughts.
#2: Zero writing skills? Instead write a list of the things you find special about your beloved. A simple “I love you because…” list can go a long way to showing how much you care.
#3: Place your love note on your lover’s pillow. Not seeing each other first thing in the morning? Have it delivered to them with flowers, candy, or an unusual gift.
#4: Create a scavenger hunt which your valentine will follow around the house to find their gift. Leave clues in interesting places with one clue leading to the next, and then ultimately to your special gift.
#5: Sing out your thoughts by using a dry erase marker to leave love notes on your beloved’s car window.
#6: If you have several gifts for your lover, start at the front door and run a string from one gift to another. Your lover follows the string to get to their next gift. You can use inexpensive kite string from the dollar store to string your gifts together.
#7: If you are single this Valentine’s Day, spend the evening with a “Valentine’s Day Sucks” party with your other single friends. Everyone brings a romantic comedy movie and their favorite junk food to the event. Make fun of the sappy movies while eating as much junk food as you want, just for one evening.
#8: Or if you do not have a special someone to share with, go to a very expensive restaurant with a favorite friend and order foods you have always wanted to try… including desert. Spend a long evening enjoying the food and company of a good friend.
#9: Don’t want to fight the crowds on Valentine’s Day? Celebrate at home by doing the cooking. Or you can cook a meal together. Cooking at home can be both romantic and a lot more fun than going out and paying for an expensive meal. Light the fire in the fireplace, get out the candles and … gasp… talk!
#10: How about a non-traditional gift? Consider making coupons that can be redeemed for a variety of things throughout the year. You can make them for simple things like washing the car, or for more sensual gifts. Thanks to home computers and cool paper, you can make some really great coupons or gift certificates in the comfort of your own home. Wrap in pretty paper or a decorative box for a one-of-a-kind gift.
#11: Plan a secret date night. Don’t tell your loved one where you’re going, simply give them details on what to wear. Make it a memorable evening that will be cherished for years to come.
#12: Have a romantic dinner in an odd room of the house. Roses are in bloom. Toss some on the table for dinner. Light the candles, listen to some of your old favorites, and slow dance around the house.
#13: Wake up early to make your mate’s favorite breakfast. Then take the time to slowly serve it to them in bed.
#14: Have your sweetheart’s favorite music playing when they come home from work. Then after a luxurious bath, serve a very special dinner in bed.
